Uttarakhand CM offers financial help to ailing folk singer

He also directed the district administration to provide free medical treatment to the ailing singer, who is admitted in a hospital in Kumaon region, said an official release here.

Devi, known as the Teejan Bai of Uttarakhand hills, was living in penury and used to sing in marriage ceremonies to eak out living before being admitted in hospital because of old-age related problems.

She lives in a remote village of Pithoragarh district.

Devi, 75, was a rage in Kumaon region of the state.

Stating that the state government is serious towards the welfare of folk artists of the state, the chief minister said the all possible help would be provided for the treatment of Devi.
