Congress in Uttarakhand today held a march to Raj Bhawan here to protest party vice president Rahul Gandhi's detention in Delhi saying there was no place for such "coercive measures" in a democracy.
AICC general secretary in-charge of party affairs in Uttarakhand, Ambika Soni, Chief Minister Harish Rawat and PCC Chief Kishore Upadhyay held a march to the Governor house to protest Gandhi's detention while he was on way to meet the kin of a retired army man who had committed suicide.
"It shows there is a government at the Centre which believes in coercion with the help of batons and lashes (lathi aur Dando ki sarkar)," Soni said in her reaction outside Raj Bhawan gate.
The alleged suicide by ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal (70) over OROP today snowballed into a huge political show with Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other opposition leaders attacking the Modi government on the issue while there was high drama after police detained and prevented them from entering a hospital.
