The government of Uttarakhand today extended financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the family of Lance Naik Raghubir Singh, who died fighting terrorists this year in Jammu and Kashmir.

Chamoli District Magistrate Ashish Joshi handed the cheque to the martyr's father Anand Singh, also a former soldier, at a small function held at the collectorate here and announced the state government's support to the family.

Raghubir's widow, Rekha Devi, will also get Rs 6 lakh as financial assistance from the state government and an additional Rs 2 lakh for constructing a house, the DM said.

Raghubir, who belonged to the Mahar regiment of the Indian Army, succumbed to injuries suffered during an anti- militant operation in Kulgam town of Jammu and Kashmir on February 12.

The resident of Chamoli district's Maikholi village was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra.
