A notification announcing the concession was issued by the state government here yesterday.

Diesel, which was available for Rs 50.20 per litre, will be sold across the state for Rs 49.60 with effect from today, official sources said.

However, confusion prevailed among petrol pump owners over the government notification with some of them implementing it and some of them yet to do so citing the model code of conduct which is in force in view of the forthcoming bypoll.

Reacting to the move, main opposition BJP said it was a clear violation of the model code of conduct.

"It is obviously a breach of the model code of conduct. We will draw the Election Commission's attention to it," Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Ajay Bhatt said.

"We have nothing against the concession being given to people but as per the EC norms it should have been done after the bypoll," he said terming the move as the "murder of democracy."

The Tehri seat fell vacant after Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna resigned from it following his victory from Sitarganj Assembly constituency.
