Uttarakhand Guv greets people on state's 13th anniversary

Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi today greeted people of the state on the eve of the 13th anniversary of its creation out of Uttar Pradesh, saying the dream of the statehood martyrs lives on.

In his message on the eve of the state's foundation day, the governor said the efforts to build the Uttarakhand of the statehood martyrs' dreams are still under way and true development will come about only when each section of society progresses equitably.

"We must bear in mind that true development will take place only when people of all sections of society will get a chance to progress without any discrimination," Qureshi said.
 

He also urged people to ensure help to those affected in the recent tragedy in the Himalayan state.

"This year, the natural disaster has taken a toll on our state and we must ensure that affected families get all possible help," he said.

The governor said that for sustainable development, there is need to conserve the natural resources as well as the rich cultural heritage of Uttarakhand.

"In conformity with the local needs and peoples' aspirations, we will have to present an outline of concrete practicable programmes for the future. Leading a respectable and dignified life is the right of every citizen and we should ensure that this is given to each person in the state," he said.
