The Supreme Court today transferred to the Uttarakhand High Court a PIL seeking fair distribution of aid and compensation to people affected in natural disaster in the state two years ago.

"We transfer this to Uttarakhand High Court," a social justice bench of justices Madan B Lokur and U U Lalit said.

The petition was filed by one Jai Prakash Bisht alleging that people who lost their relatives are not being compensated by the government till date and they continue to suffer on account of disaster.

"The dependent family members of the deceased are not getting any aid like food, clothing, medicine and shelter. They are forced to live in the open and the ration which is being distributed is not eatable," the petition had said.

In June 2013, a massive cloudburst had caused devastating floods and landslides in Uttarakhand in one of the worst natural disasters since the 2004 tsunami.
