Students of the Mizoram University today held a rally at the campus at Tanhril near Aizawl protesting against the delay in appointment of a regular Vice Chancellor, bringing all activities of the university to a standstill.

The rally, organised by the Mizoram University Students' Council (MZUSC), barred teachers and non-teaching staff from entering the campus.

The meeting of the MZUSC also decided to launch an indefinite strike until a regular Vice Chancellor for the University is appointed.

The Mizoram University had been without a regular V-C for almost two years and repeated appeal to the Union Minister Prakash Javedekar and officials of the Ministry of Human Resources Development bore no fruits till date, the MZUSC, in a press statement, said.

The student leaders lamented that the Centre has ignored the pleas of the central university students and teachers.
