The Vadodara Municipal corporation(VMC) has stopped putting garbage at the old dumping site at Vadsar, a senior official said today.
VMC has stopped dumping solid waste at the old dumping site at Vadsar on the outskirt of the city since a long time. We have developed a sanitary landfill site for the said purpose. The site has been made operational since past few years, Municipal Commissioner H S Patel told PTI.
The old site is used for parking of garbage collection vans. Security guards have been placed to ensure that nobody dumbs garbage at the old site, he said.

Earlier, the Prime Minister's Office had asked the Gujarat government to act upon the suggestion of building a science city on the garbage dumping site of VMC at Vadasar-Kalali road after students of a school nearby wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi complaining about its health hazards.
The suggestion came from a group of Class VIII students led by Ananya Garg of Delhi Public School when she decided to write to Modi on the issue in July this year.
"Garbage has an adverse effect on the health of 1,200 students studying in the school and people living in the neighbouring areas. It contaminates the soil and environment as well. We request the authorities to kindly take a serious note of the situation and do needful for the area at the earliest," letter to PM said.
Speaking about the issue, Patel said, 'VMC will prepare detailed project report this year related to solid waste management projects of the city in which options suggested by the students of DPS school will be examined. We will try for implementation of the best option looking towards the feasibility, availability and suitability of land."
He also said that the said portion of land is under planning of Vishwamitri river front project for further development.
