Leader of Opposition in Gujarat Assembly Shankersinh Vaghela today claimed that he has in his possession electronic evidence against at least 12 persons involved in the Naliya gang-rape and sex racket case.

Meanwhile, taking a strong exception to Vaghela's claim, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel dared him to make the videos public.

Speaking to reporters in Gandhinagar, the senior Congress leader said he had in his possession evidence in the form of CDs against several accused in the sex racket case registered in Naliya town of Kutch district.

"I have CDs of at least 12 persons who are involved in the Naliya sex racket. I have kept these CDs as evidence against these people. But I will not share it with media because I do not believe in stripping down someone's dignity," he said.

Vaghela's claim created a flutter in political circles, with the Deputy Chief Minister saying it was "inappropriate".

"When police are doing investigation, it is not appropriate for Vaghela to say he is having some evidence. I challenge him to make the evidence and CDs public. Our government is committed to punish all those who have done wrong," Patel said.

A special investigation team of police has arrested eight persons who allegedly raped a married woman in Naliya on several occasions. Those arrested include four local BJP leaders, who are now suspended from the party.

In the FIR, the 24-year-old victim alleged that she was raped by at least nine persons on different occasions a year ago. She also said they made a video to blackmail her.

The victim alleged the accused were in fact running a sex racket in Kutch district where they blackmailed women by making their obscene videos.
