With the demand for total prohibition in Tamil Nadu gaining momentum, MDMK today organised a marathon run for students to create awareness among the public on the ills of liquor.

Party general secretary Vaiko told reporters at the sidelines of inauguration of the marathon that liquor was introduced in Tamil Nadu to increase the revenue of the Government, resulting in spoiling of future of youths and their families.

There was no no liquor during the rule of late Kamaraj and C N Annadurai in the state, but successive governments in order to fill their exchequer were depending on the increasing revenue from the sales of liquor, Vaiko alleged.

About 6,000 students from various school and colleges participated in the marathon.
