Vajpayee's ashes immersed in Beas river

Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's ashes were today immersed in Beas river in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district.

Vajpayee had passed away on August 16. He was 93

Earlier, a prayer meeting was held at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Mountaineering Institute at Manali to pay tributes to the veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader. The urn containing his ashes was also kept here.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, Power minister Anil Sharma, Forests minister Govind Singh, Member of Parliament Ram Swaroop Sharma, MLAs Col Inder Singh, Vinod Kumar, Inder Singh Gandhi and Surinder Shourie, MP and former minister Maheshwar Singh and Roop Singh, besides people from different walks of life, attended the meeting.

 

Later, a 'Sarv Dharam' prayer meeting was also held.

Thakur said he had recited Vajpayee's poems in the auditorium of the institute when the latter was prime minister in 2002.

Later, he planted a sapling of deodar at the institute in Vajpayee's memory.
