Three children and driver of a school van were injured after their vehicle collided head-on with a car in Bharat Nagar of north Delhi today.

While children escaped with minor injuries and were discharged after treatment at a local hospital, the condition of the van driver was said to be serious and was admitted to a hospital, police said.

The accident took place at about 7.30 AM while six school students were being driven in a van to a private school in the area.

"The car driver lost control over his vehicle and ventured into the lane on the other side and collide head-on with the school van that was approaching from the other end," police said.

The car driver immediately abandoned the car, which bore Harayana Registration number, and fled even as a passerby alerted the police.

The driver was employed by a Gurgaon resident. Police are also probing if he had sought permission from the car owner before taking the vehicle out.

A case in this connection has been registered at Bharat Nagar police station and efforts are on to nab the driver.
