Van falls into ditch in Rajasthan, 1 dead

A 50-year-old woman was killed and 28 other people were injured after a pickup van lost control and fell into a ditch in Rajasthan's Kota district, the police said today.

The incident happened late last night on Rawatbhata road near the city of Kota.

A group 28 people, including six children, from the ethnic Koli community were returning home to Palayatha village of Baran district after attending a family function in Rawatbhata city, Chittorgarh, said Pratap Rao, sub-inspector at R K Puram police station.

The body of the deceased, Gangibai Koli, has been handed over to her family after a post-mortem examination. At least 14 of the injured were admitted to a hospital, while the others have been discharged after primary treatment, Rao said.
 

A case of negligent driving has been lodged against the driver of the vehicle, he added.
