Fuelling competition in the premium segment bike, Mumbai-based Vardenchi today launched a bike with a price range of Rs 8-12 lakh.

The newly introduced motorcycle--Vardenchi T5-- is designed and developed at the company's manufacturing facility in Mumbai, while the engine is imported from Italy-based Moto Morini.

The starting price of the bike would be in the range of Rs 8-12 lakh, Vardenchi Motorcycles Founder Akshai Varde told PTI.

The Mumbai-based firm aims to sell 600 units per annum, he said, adding that this number would go up to 2,000 in the next five years.

The 1.2 litre engine bike would have digital instrumentation.

The other competitors in the segment are Harley Davidson, Triumph, Suzuki Motors and Honda among others.

Vardenchi-Moto Morini also launched two motorcycle models -- Granpasso and Scrambler -- at the 12th Auto Expo here.

The motorcycles will be imported and distributed in India by Vardenchi Motorcycles.

The 1,187-cc Granpasso 1200 is an adventure series with v-twin oversquare engine while the Scrambler is built for all-terrain crossover use and comes with the same power as Granpasso. These bikes would come in the price range of Rs 27-32 lakh.

Currently, the company has distribution network in four states including Gujarat and Rajasthan. It is planning to expand the network by adding four more deals in the state of Punjab and Delhi.

Last year, Moto Morini had tied up with Mumbai-based custom bike maker Vardenchi to design and manufacture an ultra premium motorcycle.
