Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today inaugurated a police directorate at Bhawani Bhawan here bringing various departments of the West Bengal police under one roof to facilitate better policing and coordination.

The chief minister said that the Kolkata Police had a set-up of its own at Lalbazar, but the West Bengal Police lacked one.

"The West Bengal Police has been neglected for a long time. So the various important sub-departments have been brought under one roof for better coordination," Banerjee told reporters after the inauguration.

The Bhawani Bhawan, which has served as the headquarters of the CID, will host from now on the departments such as intelligence, organisation and other departments.

West Bengal DGP G M P Reddy will also sit there in the office for sometime.
