The state committee of LDF, which met here today, decided to seek an appointment with Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj, who holds additional charge of Kerala, to present a memorandum in this regard.

The LDF delegation would be led by CPI(M) stalwart and Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan, LDF convener Vaikom Viswan told reporters.

The leaders would urge Bhardwaj to intervene in the matter in his capacity as Chancellor of the University.

The scandal pertains to an aborted move by a section in the University administration and syndicate to assign land forming part of its central campus to some private trusts with academic and sporting interests.

The opposition had alleged that the trusts which were benefited from the largess were floated by people with strong connections with Indian Union Muslim League, the second largest partner in the ruling Congress-led UDF which holds the education portfolio in the ministry.

CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan had yesterday demanded a judicial probe into the charge and wanted the Vice- Chancellor to step down to pave way for a free and fair probe.

The syndicate proposal, which was opposed by its Congress and LDF members, was later frozen with the issue snowballing into a controversy.

With the controversy hotting up, the Vice-Chancellor has stoutly refuted the allegations levelled against him. PTI NM APR
