Talking to reporters after meeting Bhardwaj at Raj Bhavan here, opposition leader V S Achuthanandan said Bhardwaj had told the delegation that he would seek a report from the government on the issue.

The delegation asked Bhardwaj to intervene in the matter in his capacity as Chancellor of the University, he said.

The issue pertains to an aborted move by a section in the University administration and syndicate to assign land forming part of its central campus to some private trusts with academic and sporting interests.

The opposition had alleged that the trusts were floated by people with "connections" with Indian Union Muslim League, the second largest partner in the ruling Congress-led UDF government, which holds Education portfolio in the ministry.

The syndicate proposal, which was opposed by its Congress and LDF members, was later frozen with the issue snowballing into a controversy.

The Vice-Chancellor had refuted allegations levelled against him in the issue.
