Teachers of the Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology here started a two-day dharna today to protest the enforcing of biometric system of attendance "without any consultation with them to examine the pros and cons of the issue."
Members of Guru Jambheshwar University Teachers' Association (GJUTA) sat on a dharna at the university and urged Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and the state Education Minister to withdraw orders enforcing biometric system of attendance in universities.
Anil Bhankhar and Anju Gupta, President and Secretary of (GJUTA) respectively, claimed that university teachers in Haryana as well as in the country "are never asked to mark their attendance".
A teachers' job is multi-dimensional, highly complex and specialized intellectual activity and there is no co-relation between input/efforts (in terms of time) and output in terms of effectiveness of teaching, research and extension activities, they reasoned.
