The management of Avanashilingam University for Women today warned the students of stringent action, if they continued to abstain from the classes.

The students and teachers of the university were boycotting classes for the last few days, protesting a reported proposal to convert the university into a self-financing institution, which the management had denied.

In a notice, the university, which is getting UGC grants, said that stringent action would be taken against the absentees who are willfully abstaining from the class under the existing rules of the University.

It also asked the students to attend the classes without fail.

Various political parties and NGOs and organisations have also opposed the reported move to convert it into a self-financing institution.
