Producer Dinesh Vijan says he decided to make revenge drama 'Badlapur' with Varun Dhawan because the actor himself wanted to star in a dark, intense movie right after his debut film 'Student of The Year'.

"People say Varun doing this film is a risk but I don't believe that. When I met Varun, he kept saying I want to do a really dark film, and at that time he was just one film old. I was also wondering.

"I feel there is a certain amount of darkness in his happiness because I have never seen an actor who has so wanted to do a dark movie," Dinesh said.

The producer however said that when Varun was narrated the script of 'Badlapur', he got scared. "We decided to make the film and we called him. We were like, 'you wanted dark, here is dark' and Varun was taken aback," he said.

'Badlapur', directed by 'Johnny Gaddaar' helmer Sriram Raghavan, also stars Yami Gautam, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Huma Qureshi and Divya Dutta in pivotal roles.

Dinesh said he wanted to make a pure Sriram Raghavan film, with no toning down of the content and keeping them as raw as they can be.

"My idea was to make an unadulterated Sriram Raghavan thriller. I just wanted 'Badlapur' to be the extension of his mind. He has chosen his riskiest story for the film. When he narrated me a few scenes, I was quiet for five minutes. After 'Agent Vinod', people told him not to make this film but I connected to it," he said.

The 'Finding Fanny' producer said that the movie is a twisted entertainer as it has a profound story and a brilliant climax.

"It is a twisted entertainer because it leaves a lot for you to think. The riskiest thing in the film is its end. It is something you will walk out and think about, which is important.

"It is a two hour three minutes long film with two hours of revenge and three minutes of change. There were three ways to end the film. It was Sriram's call," he said.

'Badlapur' will hit theatres this Friday.
