P M Sadishkumar, a research scholar of Visva Bharati, was admitted to hospital when he was found unconscious in his hostel room this evening.

Sadishkumar, attached to the bio-technology department of the varsity, was later admitted to Bolpur sub-divisional hospital.

According to university sources, Sadishkumar, who hails from Chennai, had written a letter to Vice-Chancellor of the University in which he alleged that the head of the department Sibaprasad Adhikari 'harassed' him and did not 'co-operate' with him in his research work which had caused him a lot of troubles.

Copies of the letter were sent to the district administration and the Governor of West Bengal.

Samit Roy, the Proctor of Visva Bharati said "a couple of weeks ago, he had written a letter to the Vice-Chancellor and others including the Governor of West Bengal.

"We verified with the head of the department Sibaprasad Adhikari who termed the allegations as baseless. We had sent a report to the office of the Governor when they asked for the same from us."

Contacted over phone tonight, Adhikari refused to comment on the matter.

Hospital sources said the condition of Sadishkumar was now stable and he was suspected to have consumed food laced with poison.

Police did not rule out the suicide bid angle but said investigations were on.
