The Madras High Court has issued notice to the HRD ministry and the Puducherry government on a plea seeking a direction to appoint a Vice-Chancellor for Pondicherry university.
A vacation bench, comprising Justice R. Mahadevan and Justice M Govindaraj, directed them yesterday to file counter by May 24 and posted the matter for further hearing on that date.
In his petition, Ranjit Kumar submitted that for the past two years, the post of vice chancellor of the University is vacant and the HRD ministry for "reasons best known to it" is not taking any serious steps to fill the vacancy.
The petitioner prayed for a direction to the HRD ministry and Puducherry government to take immediate steps for filling the post of VC within a timeframe.
