VCK extends support to Narayanasamy for Nellithope by-poll

The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) today pledged support to V Narayanasamy, the Chief Minister and Congress nominee for the November 19 Assembly by-poll to Nellithope constituency.

VCK general secretary D Ravikumar, along with the functionaries of the Puducherry unit of the party, called on Narayanasamy at the Congress office here and handed a letter to the chief minister pledging his party's support to him in the by-election.

Puducherry Congress chief and PWD Minister A Namassivayam, Congress legislators of Puducherry Assembly and the office-bearers of Puducherry Congress were among those present.

Receiving the VCK's letter of support, Narayanasamy said he was grateful for "the love, affection and cooperation" of the party.
 

Later, talking to reporters, Ravikumar said the Congress had recently written to his party, seeking supportfor Narayanasamy in the by-election.

The executive committee of the state unit of the VCK had decided to support the chief minister to ensure an efficient leadership "to protect the secular fabric" of Puducherry and to pave the way for development of the union territory.

"The party has decided to support Narayanasamy and a resolution was adopted by its state unit in this regard. The letter was handed to him today.VCK founder Thol Thirumavalavan would campaign for the chief minister," Ravikumar said.

He said the VCK took the decision keeping in mind the "special features" of Puducherry.

Namassivayam said the Congress had sought the support of the VCK to nurture the development of Puducherry.

"We are grateful to the VCK for its decision to support the Congress in the by-poll," he said.

Replying to a question on the Congress' move to seek the support of the Left parties for the by-poll, he said, "We have approached them and their leaders have told us that they would consult with their respective panels and convey their decision soon.
