Renowned Veena maestros will perform in the city on October 2 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and also spread the message of peace and harmony through music.

A city based organisation which aims to promote music has decided to mark October 2 as the 'World Melody Day' during which Veena maestros Saraswati Rajgopalan and B Sivakumar will perform recitals.

"The Veena represents the confluence of the science of musical sounds and the philosophy of harmony and tranquillity - all that the Mahatma stood for. It is essential to employ this acoustic vehicle for a spiritual voyage," said V Raghurama Ayyar, Secretary-General of The Veena Foundation.

The organisation will also felicitate famous Veena players in New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai with 'Sangeetgyaan Tatvagya' awards.

The World Melody Day will also be celebrated in Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, UK, Denmark and the US.
