Vegetable oils import down 7 pc to 11 lakh tonnes in March

Import of vegetable oils fell by 7 per cent in March to 11.09 lakh tonnes due to higher domestic output of oilseeds.

The country had imported 11.9 lakh tonnes of vegetable oils (edible and non-edible oils) in March 2016.

"The overall import of vegetable oils during first five months of current oil year 2016-17, November 2016 to March 2017, is reported at 57,90,276 tonnes compared to 63,19,822 tonnes i.E. Lesser by 8 per cent," Solvent Extractors' Association said in a statement.

India imported about 145 lakh tonnes of vegetable oils in the 2015-16 oil year (November-October).
