Satpal, the vendor who sells vegetables at D-Block in Azadpur Subzi Mandi in north Delhi, was stabbed to death on Thursday morning when he was busy receiving customers, police said today.

Pankaj, Bunty and a juvenile, whose identity has been withheld, have been arrested for the crime, police said, adding that images captured in the CCTVs at the Sabzi Mandi helped them nab the accused.

The incident took place on Thursday morning when Satpal and his brother Sanjay were at the mandi selling vegetables.

"At about 8.30 AM, four boys started picking pocket of the customers, who had come to buy vegetables. This was objected to by Satpal. And a youth aged about 24-25 years came forward and stabbed him in his neck," Meenu Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North-West District, said.

Immediately, the remaining three associates started pelting stones at people present at the mandi and escaped towards Adarsh Nagar Railway Station

Lal Chand, who had come to buy vegetables, was also injured in the incident.

After the incident, police examined the CCTV footage and arrested Pankaj within an hour and he revealed that he along with his associates Bunty, one juneile and another person planned in the morning to steal money from vegetable buyers in the crowded market.

They had also planned that in case anyone gets caught, the others would throw stones on vegetable buyers to facilitate a safe exit for others.
