Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today asked journalists to verify an incident and get to the truth before filing reports on it.
"Reports should not be filed before getting full information and truth... News should be impartial and just and in the interest of society," he said.
"In this age of social media like Twitter and Facebook, the role and importance of journalists have increased but it is necessary that the truth of various issues are verified before filing a report in the media," the chief minister said at a programme of a local news channel here.

Pointing at the importance of the media also in the field of governance, he said its participation is in making people aware of various welfare schemes and getting feedback.
On the electronic media, he said it makes a quick impact as it reaches the people immediately and stressed that his government would want to take the media's help in fulfilling its responsibility in making the state happy and prosperous.
