Verinag to be showcased as prime tourist destination: Mir

Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Minister Ghulam Ahmad Mir today said that the famous tourist spot Verinag would be developed as a prime tourist destination to attract more tourists to south Kashmir.

"The world famous tourist spot Verinag, popularly known as the gateway of Kashmir Tourism, would be developed as a prime tourist destination," Mir said during a review meeting of works being executed under the Verinag Tourism Development Authority (VTDA) here.

The Government would also explore possibilities to develop Verinag-Khanabal-Kokernag-Simthan as a new tourist circuit, the minister said.

He said four central government-sponsored infrastructure projects costing Rs 10 crore were underway at the Tourist resort, while the department is also formulating a proposal to develop a Cable Car project in the area.
 

He said facilities were being upgraded at pilgrimages in the area and directed MD, Cable Car Corporation to complete formalities for early construction of Ropeway at Verinag.

The Minister directed the concerned authorities to ensure time-bound completion of all the ongoing projects.

He assured the meeting that Budgeted accommodation and TRC at Verinag would be completed by next April.

The meeting also discussed current fiscal action plan of the Authority and instructed the concerned to come up with new proposal for creation of more infrastructure facilities in the area.
