Veteran BJP leader passes away

BJP veteran and former MLA Bharat Singh Rawat passed away in Kotdwar today following prolonged ailment, his son and BJP MLA from Lansdowne Dilip Singh said.

He was 84.

Rawat represented the Lansdowne constituency for five consecutive terms in Uttar Pradesh Assembly in undivided UP between 1974 and 1996.

He is survived by four sons and a daughter.

Describing his death as a great loss for the party, state BJP president Ajay Bhatt said he enjoyed a direct contact with people.

State Congress president Kishore Upadhyay said his death was a loss not just for the BJP, but for the entire state.
