Veteran Communist leader Anil Sarkar dies at 76

Veteran Communist leader and Vice-Chairman of state planning council Anil Sarkar died at the All India Institute of Medical Science in New Delhi, his son Abhijeet Sarkar said today.

He was 76 and is survived by a son.

He was suffering from different old-age related health problems including diabetes, cardiac and urinary problems and died yesterday at AIIMS.

He is a former minister and sitting MLA who won the state elections for consecutive eight terms and was also the first state secretary of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI).

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar in his condolence said, "Sarkar had versatile qualities. He was a poet, an orator, a good organizer. His demise is an irreparable loss for the party."
