Veteran CPI(M) leader passes away

Veteran CPI(M) leader and former MLA M Mollah passed away at his residence in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal today.

He was 72.

He is survived by wife, four daughters and a son.

Mollah, who had been elected three times from the Mahestala assembly seat till 2006, died of cardiac arrest at his residence at around 3:10 pm, a CPI(M) district committee member said.

A teacher by profession, the Communist leader had played a key role in setting up the Akhra Girls' High School and one of the founders of a college in the district.

Leaders of CPI(M), Trinamool Congress and Congress condoled his sudden demise.
