Veteran filmmaker I V Sasi bags J C Daniel award

Celebrated filmmaker I V Sasi has been chosen for the prestigious J C Daniel award for 2014, instituted by Kerala government, in recognition of his sterling contributions to the Malayalam film industry.

The honour, which comprises a purse of Rs one lakh and a citation, is hosted by Kerala State Chalachitra Academy.

A multiple national and state award winner, Sasi has directed around 150 films in a number of languages over an illustrious career spanning four decades.

After starting out as an art director of films, he made his name with a series of memorable movies that enjoyed both commercial success and critical acclaim, an official release said here today.
 

A panel chaired by eminent author M T Vasudevan Nair selected Sasi for the honour. Veteran actor Madhu, producer P V Gangadharan, Cultural Department secretary Rani George and Chalachitra Academy chairman T Rajivnath were the other panelists.

The J C Daniel award is a state Government honour conferred annually in recognition of an individual's outstanding achievements and contributions to Malayalam cinema.
