Veteran sports journalist Salil De no more

Veteran sports journalist Salil De, who also played at club level, has died yesterday evening following a heart attack, the Calcutta Sports Journalists' Club said in a statement.

"About a week back, he fell down at home and injured his leg. He was being treated at home. Yesterday night he had a heart attack and passed away," the statement read.

De, 85, is survived by his wife and a son.

A CSJC life member, De retired from Amrita Bazar Patrika as a chief sub-editor in 1988 and continued to be associated with the CSJC till 1993.

CSJC had honoured him with Lifetime Achievement award in 2012.
 

De represented Shambazar Club and Town Club in CAB League and also played in the J K Bose Trophy for sports scribes since its inception in 1975.

His last JK Bose appearance was in 1993 at Bangalore.

The CSJC will hold a condolence meeting at its tent on May 11.
