Noted writers, journalists and artists were present as the pyre was lit at Villivakkam in Chennai this morning, family sources said.
84-year old Rangarajan, who had been suffering from lung ailment for the past few months, breathed his last at his residence here yesterday.
Rangarajan, who had penned numerous novels, short stories and translated famous works of English, was associated with the popular Tamil weekly "Kumudam" for over four decades.
Born in the temple town of Kumbakonam, Rangarajan also translated famous works in English fiction like those by Sydney Sheldon and Jeffrey Archer.
Prominent among those who attended the funeral were actor Sivakumar, writer Lena Tamilvanan, journalists Sudangan, Balakumaran, Suresh Balakrishnan, 'Kumudham' Varadarajan, 'Kumudham' Assistant Editor Priya Kalyanaraman, Kumudham S A P Annamalai's wife Kothai Achi, Krishna Chidambaram, artists Jeyaraj, Arasu and Ramu, family sources said.
The witer is survived by wife, two sons and three daughters.
