VHP and Bajrang Dal today expressed their opposition to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan attending a public communal harmony rally in Dakshina Kannada district on February 25 in the wake of "political killings" in Kannur district of Kerala.
Addressing reporters here, VHP chief M B Puranik alleged that CPI-M in Kerala was always working towards finishing their rivals who held contradictory ideologies and the chief minister belonged to such a party.
There had been 13 political killings in Vijayan's constituency and all the victims were targeted just because they did not adhere to the communist ideology,Puranik alleged.
The outfits would hold a peaceful hartal opposing Vijayan's visit on Februrary 25 when he is slated to inaugurate the programme, he said.
He said a memorandum has already been submitted to the Deputy Commissioner and that the organisation has also spoken to the city police commissioner.
"The CM of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan should not be allowed to enter this district or attend the programme," Puranik said.
"A chief minister who has failed to maintain law and order in his very own state should not be allowed to participate in communal harmony rallies in other states. Inviting him here is only intended to promote communal disharmony," he said.
"We do not mind any other person attending and inaugurating the programme, but we will not tolerate a person like Vijayan doing the same," he said.
VHP leader Jagadish Shenava was among those present.
