VHP and Bajrang Dal today staged a protest here demanding that the Telangana government immediately revoke the orders externing the head of Sri Peetham of Kakinada, Swami Paripoornananda, from Hyderabad city.
Police took several protesters into preventive custody and later released them, police sources said.
The seer was externed on July 10 for six months for allegedly making provocative speeches targeting other communities and their leaders.
BJP MP Bandaru Dattatreya, who took part in the protest, demanded that the state government come out with the reasons behing the externment.
"It is sheer vote bank politics of the state government. The ban on Swami Paripoornananda should be lifted immediately," Dattatreya said.
BJP MLC Ramchander Rao also participated in the protest.
