A senior Viswha Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Jugal Kishore today welcomed the draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) and said those staying illegally in India should be "driven out".
Kishore, who is VHPs Kendriya Mantri, said that the opposition parties were playing "vote bank" politics over the NRC issue.
"Those who are staying illegally in India should be driven out", Kishore told reporters.
He further said that "their voting right and ration cards should be taken away and they will go on their own."
We dont say that they should be beaten up, but Bangladesh should take back its citizens, who intruded into India, added Kishore, who is also the head of All India Dharam Prasar.
Slamming the opposition parties for playing "vote bank" politics over the issue, Kishore said things should happen in the interest of the country and people should think of it from the point of view that such intrusions give rise to crime and hurt economy.
The register is happening from the time of (former prime minister) Rajiv Gandhi, but the BJP has speeded it up, Kishore said.
To a query on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjees opposition to NRC, Kishore said he did not give any weight to her opposition.
He also said slaughter of cows should be stopped as 80 per cent of the population in the country treat the cow as mother.
When you stay in a civil society one should respect others sentiments, he said and added that one should not touch cow and eating beef is insult to Hindus.
To a question on the thrashing of Swami Agnivesh in Pakur recently, Kishore said that one should not be beaten up for expressing ones views but supporting naxalism is wrong.
Condemning the Khunti gang-rape of five girls, Pathalgarhi incidents and sale of babies by the Nirmal Hriday in Jharkhand, Kishore advocated strict action against such crimes and blamed the Church behind the incidents.
