Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu arrived in Raipur on Thursday evening as part of his visit to Chhattisgarh.
Naidu will be the chief guest during the inauguration of the 102nd annual conference of the Indian Economic Association to be held in the state capital on Friday.
He arrived at the Swami Vivekanand Airport here at 5.35 pm, a government official said.
Chhattisgarh Governor Anusuiya Uikey, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, state Assembly speaker Charandas Mahant, Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik, former Chief Minister Raman Singh and officials welcomed Naidu at the airport.
Soon after his arrival, Naidu headed to the Raj Bhavan, where he will stay during the night, the official said.
On Friday morning, he will leave for Balangir in Odisha in a special IAF helicopter. He is scheduled to attend a programme there. He will return to Raipur at 1.15 pm, the official added.

At 4 pm, he will attend the opening ceremony of 102nd annual conference of the Indian Economic Association as the chief guest. He will address the event, which will be held at Pt Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium here, he said.
After the programme, Naidu will fly back to New Delhi.
