Victim files plea for compensation for bear attack

The Madras High Court today ordered issue of notices to officials concerned on a petition by a person, who was attacked by a bear, seeking compensation under Tamil Nadu Wild Life (Protection) Act.

Justice C S Karnan ordered issue of notices to Tirunelveli District Collector, District Forest Officer and the Forest Ranger of Ambasamuthiram, where the incident took place.

Petitioner P Pauldurai submitted that he was attacked by a bear when he was working in his field at Chettimedu village in Ambasamuthiram taluk on August 31, 2014.

He was admitted to a hospital and his wound was sewn with stitches, he submitted, adding, now due to the injury he could not attend work for the past three months.
 

Pauldurai contended that he submitted application for compensation to the officials concerned, as Under the Tamil Nadu Wild Life (Protection) Act the government was liable to pay compensation.

But no reply ws received from them, he submitted.
