The BJP-SAD candidate Manjinder Singh Sirsa who won the Rajouri Garden bypoll today met BJP national president Amit Shah at his residence.

Sirsa who defeated Congress candidate Meenakshi Chandela by a margin of 14,652 votes headed straight to Shah's residence after his victory was announced by returning officer for the election at the venue of vote counting in Hari Nagar.

Accompanied by Delhi BJP leaders he reached Shah's Akbar Road residence to pay his respects to the BJP president.

Shah posed with Sirsa while smiling for waiting cameramen inside his sprawling bungalow but did not interact with mediapersons.

"We will offer sweets after MCD polls," he said when shutterbugs urged him to feed 'Ladoos' to Sirsa for a picture.

The MCD polls for 272 wards of three municipal corporations in Delhi are due on April 23 and BJP is hoping to recapture the civic bodies for the third time in a row.

The party has been ruling all three civic bodies for over a decade.

Sirsa termed his victory and loss of deposit by the AAP candidate in the bypoll as a "referendum" on the Arvind Kejriwal government's performance.

"In this poll, AAP candidate has lost his deposit which indicates people are very angry with AAP government's poor performance in Delhi," he said.
