Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today met and greeted party's youth wing candidates who have swept the Gujarat University elections.

However, the event was marred by a boycott by upset media persons, who were made to wait at the gate of the party headquarters.

In his interaction with the NSUI leaders, Gandhi discussed the challenges and opportunities lying ahead for the NSUI in Gujarat and hailed the victory of the Congress' Student wing in the Gujarat University polls as an indicator of the inclination of urban youth towards the party.

A statement released by the NSUI said that in the Gujarat University Senate and Gujarat University Student Welfare election held on February 23 NSUI has won 15 out of twenty-four seats.

Media personnel later also boycotted the AICC's official press conference at 5.30 PM, which was to be addressed by party spokesperson Raj Babbar.

Gandhi was supposed to meet victorious candidates of his party's student wing at 3.30 PM but the meeting was delayed.

Several Television crews and photographers from the print media had to wait outside the gate of Congress headquarters as they were denied entry.

The AICC had invited the media for a photo opportunity for the event.

Displeased with the manner in which security personnel treated them, some of the reporters and photographers decided not to cover the event.

Congress functionaries including senior party leader Motilal Vora and Babbar did try to placate the upset reporters but they did not agree to attend even the press conference.
