Vidarbha receives heavy rain; teenager killed in tree fall

Incessant rains since the last two days in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra claimed one life in the city, police said today.

Two brothers were riding a mobike when a tree fell on them, killing one of them on the spot today, while the other suffered injuries and was rushed to a private nursing home, they said.

The incident took place near a cinema hall in Dharampeth area. The deceased was identified as Ashutosh Vijay Sumbhaere (18), while his younger brother Swapnil (14) suffered injuries.

Meanwhile, Wardha recorded the highest rainfall in the region at 200.10 mm over the last two days. Among other areas, Ashti taluka received 200 mm, Arvi 196, Karaja 184, Deoli 131, Selu 127 and Hinganghat taluka 164 mm, official sources said.
 

Similarly, Lakhani taluka in Bhandara district got 104 mm, while Deori in Gondia recorded 176 mm, they said.

Heavy downpour disrupted vehicular traffic from Gadchiroli to taluka places in Armori and Chamorshi as rivers were overflowing and bridges on them were closed for vehicles, official sources said.

Gondia-Balaghat inter-state traffic was halted as Vainganga river was in spate in many places.
