Videocon Group's Punjab telecom arm, Quadrant Televentures, today received permit from the DoT to launch pan-India Internet services.

"Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has on January 06, 2015 granted to the Company a Unified License - ISP (Category-A) thereby permitting the Company to provide Internet Services all over India," "Quadrant Televentures said in a regulatory filing.

Earlier, the company was providing Internet services in the Punjab Telecom Circle only under the Internet Service Provider (Category-B) License granted by DoT for operations in Punjab Telecom Circle only.

Videocon Telecom CEO and Director Arvind Bali said the group will start rolling out internet services through this licence in service area or states where it already provides mobile services to support its 4G service expected to be launched this year.

"We are already broadband service market leader Punjab. We have plans to roll out internet services first in service area where we are operating starting with Haryana, then Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh because we have lot of synergies in terms of infrastructure and manpower," Bali said.

He added the company will need Internet infrastructure to create wifi hotspots to offload traffic on its 4G network when it is in place.

"After these states, we will pick each circle one by one and start rolling out Internet services," Bali said.
