Senior prison administration officials have initiated a probe after some videos on social media purportedly showed that inmates of a jail here were in the possession of unauthorised items.
Two videos one showing an inmate of the jail exhibiting a mobile phone and charger with him, and the other showing the same inmate flashing a strip of medicines, claiming them to be narcotic tablets - went viral recently.
Jail DIG Gopabandhu Mallick has initiated an investigation, a senior police officer said.
"We are looking into the source of the videos and trying to find out as to who shot the videos in the jail premises," Mallick told reporters on Tuesday, adding, the videos could be the handiwork of an insider with ulterior motive.
The Superintendent of the jail, Rabindranath Swain, claimed that the videos were very old, and they were illegally and intentionally shot by some discontented staff.
