Views of stakeholders sought on proposed Goa Tourism Policy

Goa government has invited views and suggestions from various stakeholders on its proposed 'Tourism Master Plan and Tourism Policy'.

"The Department of Tourism has called upon the general public,travel and tourism trade, industry associations, NGOs, policy advocacy groups and all stakeholders to contribute their views and suggestions to the proposed Goa Tourism Master Plan and Tourism Policy," a spokesperson said.

The Goa Tourism Master Plan and Tourism Policyis being prepared with the objective to provide direction and guidance for sustainable development of tourism in state over short term, medium term and long term periods.

"Views and suggestions are being sought onwhat infrastructure and service sector investments are required to provide tourism products and activities for identified tourists.
 

"The other aspectson which thedepartmentseeks views are, which tourism product mix should be employed in tourism sector and howshould thegovernmentensure that tourism growth creates jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities for the Goans," the spokesperson said.

He said views are being sought on how a balance has to be struck between the need for economic and entrepreneurial development for Goans and the social and environmental impact of tourism growth.

"It also seeks suggestions on the proposal of showcasing the key Unique Selling Propositions (USPs) of Goa as a tourist destination and what are the opportunities that can be taken in order to enhance this potential," the spokesperson said.

Suggestions and views are also sought on the areas of weakness and its remedies, factors limiting Goa's competitiveness as a tourist destination, and on the policy, regulatory and institutional interventions needed to ease investment and operating tourism business in Goa.

In a statement issued here, the Department of Tourism said involvement of stake-holders in preparation of the Master Plan and Policy by way of suggestions and views will go a long way in finalising its goal to boost tourism.
