A vigilance court today ordered confiscation of two houses and 23 plots belonging to a former block education officer in Bihar's Banka district that he had amassed through corrupt means during his service.

The order was passed by Additional District and Sessions Judge Rakesh Malviya in his capacity as the designated officer of a special vigilance court at Bhagalpur.

The former officer Kamleshwari Chaudhary was arrested on graft charge in October 2012 and a case was lodged under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at vigilance police station.

During search at his residence, the vigilance sleuths had seized Rs 3,95,700 in cash, passbooks of various banks, tractor, two-wheeler, papers of two houses (both double-storied) and of 23 plots.

Following assessment of value of Chaudhary's properties, the vigilance department had submitted a charge sheet against him in the special vigilance court with a prayer for confiscation of all those properties amassed through illegal means under the Bihar Special Courts Act, 2009.

After hearing the contending parties over the past three years, the court passed the order for confiscation of two houses and 23 plots of the former officer.
