Vigilance nabs ASI accepting Rs 10,000 bribe

Vigilance sleuths today arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 in Bihar's Samastipur district.

A team of Vigilance Investigation Bureau caught one Manoj Kumar Singh- an ASI with Shahpur Patori police station of Samastipur district- red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 in return for helping the complainant in a case, a Vigilance department release said.

One Ram Naresh Rai, a resident of Hasanpur Tora village under Shahpur Patori police station of Samastipur district, had lodged a complaint with Vigilance Investigation Bureau against the ASI, the release said.

The allegations were found to be true by the Bureau, it said.
 

A flying squad was constituted under Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohammad Zamiruddin who raided and caught Manoj Kumar Singh, the ASI, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a rented accommodation near Shahpur police station of the district, the release said.

The accused would be produced before a Special Vigilance Court at Muzaffarpur after interrogation, the release said.

Altogether 75 persons have been arrested in 68 trap cases laid out by the Bureau so far in 2017, the release said.
