Vigilance nabs Circle Officer accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000

Vigilance sleuths today arrested a Circle Officer on graft charge from West Champaran district.

A Vigilance Investigation Bureau caught Chand Bihari Sharan, Circle Officer of Bhitahan circle office in West Champaran district, red handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 for giving receipt of mutation (of land). a vigilance department release said.

Pradeep Mani Mishra, a resident of Bibi Bankatwa under Bathwaria police station of West Champaran district, had lodged a complaint with the Vigilance department that the Circle Officer of Bhitahan circle office was demanding a bribe of Rs 27,000 for giving receipt of mutation (of land), the release said.
 

The allegations were found to be correct during the verification carried out by the Bureau, it said adding that the accused Chand Bihari Sharan agreed to accept Rs 10,000 as part of first installment.

A flying squad team was constituted under Deputy Superintendent of Police Vinay Kumar Singh who raided and caught Chand Bihari Sharan, the Circle Officer, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the collectorate gate of Bettiah, the district headquarters town of West Champaran.

The accused would be produced before a Special Vigilance Court at Muzaffarpur after interrogation, the release said.

Altogether 14 persons have been arrested in 12 trap cases laid by the Bureau so far in 2017.
