Haryana government has ordered a vigilance probe against two Kabaddi players for claiming Rs 2 crore award each by allegedly showing themselves as residents of the state.
"I have ordered a vigilance inquiry to conduct in-depth probe into the incident in which two Kabaddi players, one of which was an Arjuna Awardee, have claimed Rs 2 crore award from Haryana government. But our departmental inquiry found that they were not residents of Haryana," state sports minister Anil Vij said today.
The inquiry has been initiated against Manjeet Chillar and Rakesh Kumar, he said.
Both players were part of the Indian Kabaddi team that participated in the South Korea Asian games in 2014, he said.
"After we gave them award of Rs 2 crore each to both players in year 2015, I was told that both players had given fake certificates to prove that they were residents of Haryana. But actually they live in Delhi," he said.
The minister said that a five-member departmental committee was formed to probe their claims.
"During the inquiry it was found that Manjeet had shown himself as permanent resident of Delhi when he was given Arjuna award," he claimed.
The other player Rakesh Kumar had said that his name was mentioned in ration card in Haryana along with his brother's name.
"But he also could not provide satisfactory answers on his Haryana domicile," the minister claimed.
Both the players had claimed that they were the residents of Jhajjar district in Haryana.
