Vigilance probe into 'misuse' of power in granting title deeds

A local court today ordered a vigilance investigation into alleged misuse of power by some ministers in granting title deeds of land to a city-based private college by writing off lease arrears of Rs 10 crore.

Inquiry Commissioner and Special Judge (Vigilance) K Haripal today directed the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau to conduct an inquiry and file a report by December 22.

Petitioner K Kesavadas, district secretary of the Hindu Aiykavedi, alleged some ministers and government officials had misused and abused power by giving title deeds of the land to the college by writing off lease arrears of about Rs 10 crore recently.
 

This act was also against the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court in a similar cases, he added.
